Itinerary
Day 1: Travel from Durban to the Drakensberg Mountains via Howick Falls, Nelson Mandela Capture Site and Midlands Meander area.
Stop At: Howick Falls, Corner of Falls Drive & Morling Street, Howick South Africa
Howick Falls is our first stop from Durban having travelled past Pietermaritzburg. Howick Falls is a waterfall in Howick, KwaZulu-Natal Province, South Africa. The waterfall is approximately 95 m in height and lies on the Umgeni River.

Stop At: Nelson Mandela Capture Site, R103, Howick 3620 South Africa
From Howick Falls we travel a short distance to the Nelson Mandela Capture Site which is also in Howick. Nelson Mandela was arrested on 5 August 1962 outside of Howick, KZN Natal, South Africa. He spent the next 27 years of his life in prison. The Nelson Mandela Capture Site commemorates this moment in history with a museum and a world renowned sculpture.
At the Nelson Mandela Capture Site we first visit the Museum which is rich with all the history relating to the route taken which eventually led to South Africa's independence in 1994.
At the Capture Site we also visit the world famous monument and take some photographs.

Stop At: Drakensberg Region, Drakensberg Region, KwaZulu-Natal
From the Nelson Mandela Capture Site we continue with the tour driving in the most beautiful Midlands Meander area which is comprised of many breathtaking views of valleys and hills. We eventually arrive in the Drakensberg Mountains Region in the afternoon.
The Drakensberg region is extraordinary, thanks to the dramatically beautiful setting. This region is home to the awe-inspiring mountain range which is predominantly found in the KwaZulu Natal Province. The Drakensberg Mountain range is more than 200 kilometres long and combines rugged peaks with verdant valleys and spectacular backdrops. It creates a natural border between the kingdom of Lesotho and the province of KwaZulu-Natal.

Day 2: Hiking in the Drakensberg and heading back to Durban in late afternoon
Stop At: Drakensberg Region, Drakensberg Region, KwaZulu-Natal
On day 2 we begin the day with a hearty breakfast. We then proceed to do some hiking in the Drakensberg Mountains. We enjoy the scenery, the plants, the trees, the flowers and everything that one can see as we walk along on our hike. This could be a 4km or a 9km hike depending on one's level of physical fitness. After the hiking, we can take a lunch break which will then be followed by our departure from the Drakensberg as we head back to Durban arriving at around 6pm.
