Itinerary

Prepare for a very special and unique birding experience among one of the most magnificent ebony forests and few places in Mauritius where six of the nine remaining endemic birds call home. On your 3-4 hour guided tour in this Important Bird Area, as listed by BirdLife International, you will have the opportunity to spot some of the World’s rarest birds, such as the Pink Pigeon, Echo Parakeet, Mauritius Paradise Flycatcher, Mauritius Black Bulbul (also known as the merle), Mauritius Kestrel, and Grey-white eye.

Your 3-4 hour guided bird watching tour starts with a brief visit of the museum and an exclusive visit of the bird release aviaries to spot the wild Echo Parakeet and Pink Pigeon. Discover how Ebony Forest is committed to saving endemic birds and observe the forest restoration efforts to recreate large areas of native forest. Walk or use the safari jeeps to visit the Flycatcher Raised Walkway and Sublime Point. Savour Mauritian delights at Sublime Point while your guide highlights the mountains and rugged scenery of the wild south.

Brilliant tour by excellent guides. Damien and Jounne (apologies if not spelt correctly) guided us by spotting birds and informing us about the Ebony Forest as a whole. Knowledgable as well as easy to talk to generally about the flora, fauna and Mauritius as a whole. Four people c two guides - amazing. Thank you

Splendid day. A 6 k walk specially designed for bird watchers. Absolutely stunning with board walks going high up in the canopies. Did see 5 out of seven endemic species and one should never expect to see more than 1 or 2 during a 4 our walk. Knowledgable young guide with lots of stuff to share. I also thought the little resting points cool.

We went on a guided birdwatching tour. It was a great way to learn more about ebony trees, endemic species of fauna and flora as well as the history of Mauritius. We also hiked up to the viewing point with an amazing view of the coast and the lagoon.

The activity is advertised as an Endemic Bird-watching tour. Unfortunately for us, the guide assigned was more of a trail, flora and fauna specialist and knew very little about the birds. He misidentified one of them, missed spotting the pink pigeon while walking right past where it was perched, and was generally not as mindful of birds as one would expect on a "bird watching" tour. There was another tourist who joined our group of 4, making it 5, and halfway through the tour they bonded, walking ahead leaving the rest of us behind to do our own spotting/identifying. If you are looking for a trail to hike and take in some nature - it is a great experience. I went on the tour with my camera, tele lens and gear to shoot birds. I returned very disappointed. Definitely not recommended for bird photographers
