Trou aux Cerfs, Mauritius

Trou aux Cerfs, Mauritius

Also known as Murr’s Volcano, Trou aux Cerfs is a 605-meter-high dormant volcano that has a well-defined cone and crater, which has been alternately described as 300 and 350 meters in diameter and 80 meters in depth. It is referred to as the green heart of Curepipe that gives climbers a splendid 360-degree view over the city. According to expert volcanologists, the volcano is just lying dormant and could become active at any time within the next millennium.

Considering that its crater is located in the beautiful Curepipe, it is also a favorite sightseeing place for many locals and tourists from around the world. Not only that you will have a 360-degree view of the town from the crater, but also a spectacular view of the coastal plains that stretch towards the distant horizon.

You can walk all around the crater, where the environment is lovely with plants and flowers and the bowl is heavily wooded. From the road around the rim, it is a favorite spot for those who love to walk or jog, as the area offers beautiful views of the plateau. There are also benches for rest and reflection. If you like to do it like the locals, you would go to the foot of the mountain very early in the morning to jog your way up and down. (See All : Mauritius holiday packages)
