Overview

Your guide will meet you at the main train station before whisking you away to the magnificent palace of Nymphenburg where you will spend an unforgettable half day in one of the most beautiful of Europe’s palaces. As you walk through stunning baroque interior your guide will cover the fascinatingly history of the Wittelsbach royal family in an age of glory, war and betrayal. You will also learn about daily court life from aristocratic flirting to the daily grind of the servants.

Outside the palace there are the beautiful park gardens to explore with their four famous pleasure palaces such as the Amalienburg hunting lodge with its mini hall of mirrors or the Badenburg, the royal 18th century swimming pool. (Park palaces closed 16th October to March 28th)

Finally you will be taken back to Munich Hbf or you can join your guide in a local beer garden to cool off.

Stop At: Nymphenburg Palace, Schloss Nymphenburg 1, 80638 Munich, Bavaria Germany

Your guide will meet you at the main train station before whisking you away to the ‘Versalles of Munich’. Inside you will be taken through the beautiful baroque palace as you learn about the colourful history of the royal family as they played the real life Game of Thrones. You will also discuss court life from aristocratic flirting to the daily grind of the servants. You will also be given free time to explore the palace rooms yourselves.

Outside you will explore the magnificent gardens and as you walk past fountains and statues to discover the Nymphenburg’s pleasure palaces such as the Amalienburg hunting lodge with its mini hall of mirrors and the Badenburg, a royal 18th century swimming pool. There is also the (optional) choice to take a romantic ride on a Venetian gondola down the main canal of the garden.

    Tom was exceptional. He was knowledgeable about the palace and grounds. I really liked his visual aids. This is a much see tour. You won't be disappointed. When you're finished touring the palace you must see the grounds. They are the best part. Highly recommend this tour with Tom!!

    Tom was an excellent guide. He was very knowledgeable about the history of the palace and Munich/Bavaria, and he had helpful physical references to keep track of the complicated history. The palace is gorgeous, but going with a historian really helps to understand the purpose of each room and building. We laughed and joked the whole time. Afterwards, he gave us some great recommendations for local food. He really cares about making sure you have the best experience.

    My husband and I really enjoyed our private tour with Tom. He’s warm, personable, fun and very knowledgeable. His tour is filled with interesting facts and history, as well as entertaining stories about several of the palace inhabitants. The palace and its gardens are a must see when visiting Munich, and if you can afford the luxury of a personal guide to show you around, Tom is your guy!

    If you are into palaces and History than it is worth visiting the castle however the grounds are free to walk around and are breathtaking- there are other options for a fee to see the botanical gardens etc. I can imagine this place to be even more prettier in the summer with their fountains . I did pay to go in the castle but ideally for me the grounds would have sufficed as I had been to other castles .
