Overview

Hike up Mount Vesuvius and then explore the UNESCO-listed ruins of Pompeii on a must-do day trip from Rome! Going at a steady pace, the hike includes a walk on the ridge of Italy’s famously feisty volcano, allowing incredible views down into the crater itself. After a pizza lunch, head to Pompeii to see the havoc that Mount Vesuvius reaped on it in AD 79. Tour the UNESCO-listed excavations, seeing fossils and well-preserved ruins while hearing the horrors that befell this intriguing ancient city.
Mt Vesuvius is inaccessible from November 20 to March 31. During this time, the hike is replaced with a visit to the iconic City of Naples. We’ll take a panoramic bus tour and have some free time to walk around the city centre.

Pass By: City Wonders, 00100 Rome Italy

Location

Stop At: Pompeii - Archaeological Area., Porta Marina Superiore (Via Villa dei Misteri) Piazza Immacolata, Piazza Porta Marina inf., 80045 Pompeii Italy

The eruption in AD 79 spelled a fiery end for Pompeii, but the catastrophe also almost perfectly preserved the port city under layers of Volcanic ash. Thousands of years later, you can still explore the eerie streets and step inside homes, bathhouses and fast food places, as the licensed guide paints a vivid picture of life in the city’s final days.
You’ll travel from Rome to Pompeii in an air-conditioned private coach, accompanied and entertained all the way by your expert tour co-ordinator. Skip the line at Pompeii as one of the site’s own officially licensed guides will show you around the city, painting a vivid picture of life in final days before the eruption. Throughout the ruins, you’ll come across harrowing death casts: plaster recreations of unfortunate citizens preserved by the superheated volcanic ash.
In addition to the guided portion of your tour, you’ll have time for wandering and picture-taking in Pompeii – followed by an authentic Neapolitan pizza lunch.

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Stop At: Vesuvius National Park, Via Palazzo del Principe, 80044 Ottaviano Italy

It’s a short coach ride from Pompeii to the foot of the volcano that still looms above it. A half-mile hike from the parking lot takes you right to the sometimes still-steaming crater of Mt. Vesuvius – still perhaps the most dangerous volcano in the world. Stand at the epicentre of that ancient disaster and feel awe at the utter devastation it must have caused, to blast an entire city off the map for millennia. Then turn and enjoy the contrast: the crater offers the most stunning view of the sun-drenched Bay of Naples.
In the winter months, when Vesuvius is closed for hiking, the tour travels from Pompeii to Naples, with panoramic views of the volcano and historical commentary from your tour co-ordinator along the way. You’ll have ample free time to explore Naples – a city as vibrant and alive as Pompeii is quiet and affecting – before the comfortable coach returns you to Rome.

Oh what a trip it was taking in the ruins of pompei and the silently sulking vesuvius! Our tour guide Robert was phenomenal- friendly and knowledgeable, he shared some valuable information on everything from sight seeing to dining right to experience Italy to the fullest! it was a pleasure to have him on board. The stop at Naples for the authentic neopolitano was a treat!! Also have to mention- Bernadette our guide in Pompei- patient, wealth of information she was. A day absolutely well spent making amazing memories!! We - me,my husband and my two kids ages 16 and 18, loved it!

Wonderful day. Andrea taught us so much - in a nice and charming manner. There was an incident of 1 teen holding the tour up for 20 minutes - very unfair to all of us - but he handled it very fairly and appropriately. The mother of the teen was quite upset, but he remained pleasant! We would highly recommend this tour and Andrea to any and everyone!!!

Thank You for a very nice tour!
Our guide, Angela is a wonderful spirit and has excellent communication skills.
She knows a lot about history, We really liked that She takes everything about it with a pinch of salt. The history is really grey area, the light and truth always hide in the shadows.
She is well informed in her area and has a vast knowledge.
Angela was giving us useful info all the time. The trip is long but She seemed never tired ;)
Definitely She needs a pay raise :).
We wish Angela a happy life and good fortune!

The meeting place was simple and organized when we met our guide. Pizza de Popolo was easy to get to using the metro and a great place to meet because no one else meets here! Jocelyn was our guide and she was amazing! So interesting, personable, and helpful. The driver did a great job getting us to our locations as Jocelyn pointed out important sites. She even made sure we had a little nap on the bus there and back. We also stopped halfway for a rest stop which was perfect. Our hike up Mr. Vesuvius was self guided. You could hike up as far as you wanted in the time frame. My husband and I made it all the way to the end, taking lots of pictures on the way. It is a steep hike, but has great views of Napoli and Capri as well as the volcano. We would have spent maybe 30 more minutes here if it was available. We were slightly delayed because of the weather, so lunch was rushed, but well organized. They had our orders and were ready to serve almost immediately. The food was not incredible, but decent. Afterwards, we had our Pompeii guided tour with a local guide. He was excellent and funny, making sure we saw all of the main sites in the 2 hours we spent here. I think we could have easily spent more time here, but he made sure we knew and saw all the most important things. Before we left, we were able to get a gelato and a few souvenirs outside of Pompeii. This was one of my favorite days! A mix of exercise, history, and gelato!
