If you are planning to visit Switzerland this year, here are 10 Things to Know before you start your Visa application process for Switzerland.

  1. First things first, the following are the steps of the Swiss visa application process. 
    • Scheduling an appointment
    • Preparing your documents (Travel and Financial)
    • Visiting VFS (Biometrics, Visa Fee, and application submission)

  2. There is a list of cities (VFS centers) where you can apply for your visa. You are not required to visit the consulate or embassy unless asked to do so. Here is the list of cities:

    • Kochi
    • Kolkata
    • Lucknow
    • Mumbai

  3. The Switzerland embassy is expecting even more visa applications in 2023 than in pre-pandemic times according to Switzerland Embassy.
  4. Every applicant can submit their Swiss visa application 6 months in advance.
  5. The documents required for making a visa application are as follows:
    • TRAVEL DOCUMENTS:
      • Confirmed return air tickets
      • Hotel confirmations
      • Medical insurance
      • Itinerary 
    • FINANCIAL DOCUMENTS: 
      • Income proof
      • Bank statements for the past 6 months
      • Income Tax Returns for the last 3 years 
  6. If you are applying as a group, the procedure for scheduling an appointment is different. You must reach out to the embassy with your group details and the appointment and other details will be informed by the embassy on a case-by-case basis. In the case of a group (less than 100), you must schedule an appointment at least 1 month prior to your travel date.
  7. The Switzerland embassy requires a minimum of 15 working days to process your visa application.
  8. You must not be fully vaccinated to apply for a Switzerland visa. All COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted from May 2nd, 2022, and for traveling to Switzerland, a person does not have to be fully vaccinated. It is now exactly how it was before the COVID-19 pandemic.
  9. With your Swiss visa, you can enter other Schengen states, and similarly, if you have applied for a visa from other Schengen states, you can visit Switzerland as well.
  10. Travel insurance is mandatory when applying for a Switzerland visa application. Your insurance should also cover COVID-19.
