In all of the readings, audio tours and guidebooks, there is something missing. How has the political history of Spain affected the social history of its people? What is it like in a societal sense, to live in Madrid today? Why does that massive statue of a glorious moment matter to a citizen of Spain? If any of that interests you, take this tour. Yes, you’ll get the history and a bit of architecture. But you also get to stand in the shoes of the average person. We were fascinated by this tour and Maria was wonderful. Ask her anything and she will anticipate your interests and taylor the tour of her local area to your needs. Wear good walking shoes!

Our initial impression of Madrid was that it was just another big modern city. This tour proved that the history of Madrid is alive in its many beautiful districts. The Palace gardens were very beautiful, as well as the Egyptian monument. The oldest restaurant and the squares we walked were lovely. We walked as far as the Prado as we had tickets to visit that afternoon, it was a long way! Very worthwhile and enjoyable.

My guide was Beth McGowan and she was great. From Ohio but has lived in Madrid for 20 plus years. Lives in the heart of the City so knows it very well. It was a walking tour and saw places such as the Convenanto de la Encarnacion, the Palacio, Jardinas de la Plaza de Cabo Noval, ,Plaza de Oriente,Plaza De La Villa and some interesting local markets and shops. Well worth the time and money. Highly recommend.

While the guide was nice he didn't seem to know much about this history of most places and/or Madrid. In several instances what he shared with us was actually wrong. I wouldn't recommend this tour as one could visit these places with just a map.
One of the things I had come to like of most La Vacanza Travel tours is that guides are very knowledgeable and give you some of insights (and sometimes gossip) of the places you visit. In this tour this was completely absent and the guide did not seem to know much about the history of the places included in the walking tour
