Stop At: Kuldhara Abandoned Village, On the road to Sam Sand Dunes and the Thar Desert, Jaisalmer 345001 India

Ghost stories have a very different kind of charm to lure readers with old forts, ruins of castles, deserted alleys, sinister houses, and abandoned spirits. Lying 21 Km from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, Kuldhara village has a similar story to tell. At present Kuldhara Village is a heritage site and is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). As you enter the premises of this ancient village you can feel as if time has stood still in Kuldhara for the last 200 years.

Duration: 30 minutes

Stop At: Khaba Fort, Khaba, Jaisalmer India

The Indian state of Rajasthan is widely known for its rich forts and palaces. Among its uncountable number of forts, one Khaba Fort is very popular for being one of a kind. Located near the town of Jaisalmer, Khaba Fort is situated in the Khaba village amid the giant Thar Desert. This ruined fort once housed a kingdom in it and was the epicenter of the Kuldhara village. Many tourists visit the place to unearth its history and several mysteries that haunt the village to date. The abandoned houses near the fort are a popular spot for adventure seekers and myth-busters. The broken entrance for the Khaba fort starts near the spooky Kuldhara village. One can see the entire village and the nearby areas from the top of the fort.

Couple of stops enroute to the camel ride and desert experience. Camel ride was good - camel’s looked well cared for. Desert sunset was great and camp fire food delicious. We opted to take a couple of beers with us (arranged with the tour co) which we enjoyed whilst watching the sunset. Enjoyable trip. Long drive back.

The tour had a great mixture of desert driving, interesting historical sights and the camel rides. The sunset/dinner location in the peaceful dunes is very relaxing and a great finish.

We had a very beautiful experience going on a jeepsafari with our guide Ukka. Ukka was always very friendly and helpful. He was a very good driver and cooked for us a very good meal while we we were enjoying the sunset and seeing the stars at night. It was all amazing.

Excellent trip, can't recommend it highly enough. Everyone we met was so welcoming and our driver Kabil was excellent, both personally and in terms of driving safely/knowing the complex route out of the route. The camel riding was a lot of fun and the meal around the campfire was very tasty. Everyone ensured we had enough to eat and was constantly topping up our plates. Really lovely group of people and wonderful experience.

Me and my partner did this sunset safari with Pleasant Haveli and highly highly recommend! We were able to enjoy the same experience as the overnight safari but were still able to come back to the hotel at night and sleep and shower. They let us choose whichever time we would like to leave the desert so there wasn’t any pressure to rush off, despite the fairly long drive back to Pleasant Haveli. Our guides were fantastic (I’m so sorry but I’ve totally forgotten their names as we did this about a month ago!) and we laughed, joked, sung and ate with them. They were so friendly and accommodating and just genuinely want to make sure you are enjoying your time. The camels seem well cared-for, the dinner was delicious and the view of the stars at around 9pm was absolutely beautiful! They made sure they took us to a proper sand dune (sometimes the dunes other companies take you to aren’t so great) and the sunset views were breathtaking. Only thing I would suggest to people booking this is that you bring some tip money. A young child came with us to take the camels back once we had got to the dunes (you take camels into desert and jeep back out), we only brought a small amount of money with us and he held his hand out asking for tip before he left so it’s clear it was expected. We then had no money left to tip the tour guides which was a shame, so bring some change, it’s worth the tip! Out of 1 month spent travelling India this was the best thing we experienced and I could not recommend it enough.
