The pre organisation was very efficient - a lot of contact via WhatsApp etc to confirm arrangements. Pick up - driver seemed to get a little lost a couple of times on the way, pulling over and calling someone, u-turning and covering the same track but got us there safe and sound and in good time, and home journey was without a hitch. The boat men did a good job and offered tea which was nice. The guide made it clear we had come at the wrong time of day to see tigers which was disappointing, he suggested early morning was best, and we’d have zero chance of seeing any tiger. There wasn’t much other wildlife to see to make up for it either - we saw crocodile and turtle in captivity enclosure not wild, chanced some monitor lizard, and brief spotted deer. Then at the end of the guide part , he basically said he hadn’t been paid. We are not to know if this true or not but he makes us feel guilty and wonder where the significant cost of this trip ($60k rupee) has all gone?? The restaurant lunch - seems they are not expecting us and a bit confused when we show up. We get seated and it’s unclear what is included or what we can order. End up getting charged extra for water. Overall, it’s a long time in a car, a long time in a boat, for not much actual wildlife part, possibly wrong time of day, and unclear whether the workers have been paid properly out of the huge trip cost. I probably wouldn’t recommend this, and would say maybe to try an overnight to have a better chance of sighting - or try Karnataka region / and make sure to find out in advance recommendations for tipping. We had tried to organise an overnight originally but then was told it wasn’t available so changed to a same day tour , which was not the right way to experience Sundarban it seems.

Excellent arrangements and good organisational skills. Operating tours in daunting terrain like Sunderbans is itself a challenge and for tourists it is simply an adrenaline boost

Organisation was perfect, collected from our hotel on time and as we arrived at the boat we were met by a friendly guide. Sadly we didn't see any tigers, but the views and talks from the guide were great and worth the trip on their own.

This will probably be my favourite memory of India. Completely different from the urban experience, you will see village life and escape completely into nature. A truly stunning natural environment, rich with biodiversity and a cautionary message about climate change. Our boat crew was wonderful and our guide Santi was exceptional. He really made sure we had the best experience. Santi is very knowledgeable about the ecology and history of the Sundarbans and showed us many different species of fauna and flora. If you are planning a trip to India, I would highly recommend the Sundarbans. A word of warning: the drive to Sundarbans from Kolkata is not for the faint of heart! It is a long drive( 2-3 hours depending on time of day/traffic). The road is winding and rough in parts and the traffic is hair-raising with high speed passing and traffic swerving around you in all directions. Plus, our car did not have seatbelts which was concerning.

Tiger here rule the waters also! Elsewhere they rule land....while doing the safari on a boat, were constantly told about tigers attack on those who dare to swim in the waters around the mangroves......and tigers are expert swimmers too....all the waters seemed scary and thrilling due to the dominance of the apex predator of the region
