The guide was super unhelpful. He didn’t explain where we are going and what we are doing. As a first time tourist to Kashmir, I expect some decent commentary from guide. In the whole day he spoke for a sum total of 5 minutes mostly to answer my questions. I could have rather settled for the driver only as I knew exactly where I was going. He signed us for an expensive shikara ride as well. Overall a pretty bad experience with the guide

One of the most beautiful places on Earth, with snow-capped mountains, crystal clear streams flowing with water directly coming from the glaciers, tall, majestic chinar trees all around... perfect for a leisurely holiday or for winter sports, you name it kashmir offers all.... just sit on the boulevard & watch life go by or take a shikara ride & see the sun rise in Nigeen club or go to Downtown for lunch & sample the rich, famous "Wazwan" .... go to Pari Mahal & sit in peace, go to Dargah & offer your prayers, or go to the cute little Mata Rup Bhawani near Chesmashahi & have the fantastic Kheer prasad & on retrun have a khawa & onion pakora at Zaika Restaurant of J&K tourism...go to Awantoipore to see the ancient ruins of 8/9th century, go for a day trip to Dachigam National Park & see the rescued animals living in peace...do go to Khayyam for the best kebabs in town....the list goes on & on....

This tour is valuable for other reasons than you might think. To be honest, Srinagar in itself, as a city, does not offer many interesting places: There are a handful of gardens from the Mughal period, which are admittedly beautiful, but also resemble each other strongly and which I found a bit boring. In addition, there is an overcrowded Hindu temple, which at least has a nice view. Therefore, the thing that made this tour valuable for me were not the sites that I visited - it was the insight into Kashmiri history and culture that my guide Feroze Ahmad could offer. I enormously enjoyed the discussions with and explanations by Feroze, while having coffee or driving around Srinagar. He is very knowledgeable about the historical, demographic, and geopolitical background of Kashmir, while being highly respectful of other people's beliefs. For me, the unique placement of Kashmir in history and regional politics is what makes it so interesting. Therefore, this tour was exactly right for me.
