First time India, first time Varanasi, solo female traveller - I was completely lost and even frightened in this town. But then my guide came, Jain, and he helped me feel comfortable at once, answered all my questions, explained the backgrounds of everything, selected really meaningful sights, sensed my wishes and invited me to his friends' house, where I had a most warm welcome. The communication was also very good: he called me the night before and picked my up from my hard-to-reach hostel in the morning. Unlike other tours I wasn't driven to a bazaar to buy shawls or sareehs, but instead - because I was curious about it - showed me the place where Indians exercise sports and explained the spiritual background to it. It was so amazing! He was so flexible, knowledgeable and attentive. As far as I get, he doesn't do tours very often anymore, but if you get the opportunity, book with Jain.
